Inspired by Bali Series – My Why!

Hello my beautiful yogi bears and social followers! I would like to start by telling you how and why I’m on this exciting journey through Bali, and then share this amazing month-long trip by documenting an “Inspired by Bali Series” over four parts.

About four weeks ago now, I was working my dream job and had just ticked over nine months in the role. I was starting to feel like I was making progress in what was a completely new role within the company, building the foundations of great relationships with my customers and starting to gain momentum with some bigger influential customers and groups. I have been in Sales and Marketing roles for over ten years now, but this role was really challenging me in new ways working for a smaller company and having a very vast job description which I really enjoyed, as I was learning new things everyday and it didn’t feel like ground-hog day. I was also in love with the products, the brand and the company values which is quite rare in this day and age. This sadly came to an end when I was called into the office and they announced that my role along with many others had been made REDUNDANT. My initial thought was *language warning* “fuck  I have a mortgage on my own, what am I going to do?” I hadn’t been there long enough to get a pay out, but luckily had not taken a great deal of leave. Aside from my initial reaction, I had this weird sense of calm and that everything is going to be ok, which let me tell you would not normally be my feeling had this happened to me a couple of years ago. The universe has funny ways of pushing us out of our comfort zone when it knows we could quite happily sit there for another five years and help develop someone else dream.

“The UNIVERSE is always speaking to us…Sending us little messages, causing coincidences and serendipities, reminding us to stop, to look around, to believe in something else, something more – Nancy Thayer”

Let’s rewind two years ago when I went through some pretty challenging times in my life, and thew myself into yoga as my coping mechanism and let me tell you…it changed my life! I decided to travel to Bali and complete my yoga teacher training so I could share this gift with others who may be going through similar circumstances, or people who just need that break away from their life for an hour each day to realise what’s important to them and be in the present moment. I have been teaching for just over a year now at Hothut Yoga in Red Hill on the stunning Mornington Peninsula, and it is the most rewarding experience each and every class. But I have had a burning desire for the last few years to own my own business and combine my business skills from the past ten years with something that I was passionate about, and guess what? I finally found that in yoga and wellness.

A dear friend of mine joined my yoga class the day after I was made redundant, and she said to me “Em, why don’t you just take some time off to stop and think about the next step instead of rushing into the same old safety net?” I paused and thought “Can I?” the answer was YES I CAN and once I told myself that there was no going back, SO HERE I AM!!
